Summer Solstice is  June 21st

Standing Still Sun”

"SOLSTICE" is derived from two Latin words: "sol" meaning sun, and "sistere," to cause to stand still. This is because, as the summer solstice approaches, the noonday sun rises higher and higher in the sky on each successive day. On the day of the solstice, it rises an imperceptible amount, compared to the day before. In this sense, it "stands still."

FIND A  PLACE TO JUST BE… A Sanctuary is a protected place of stillness and safety.  As the earth tilts to summer, it might be helpful to find your own personal space of peace and stillness in a natural outdoor setting.  If you venture outside you may discover a spot under a special tree, a rock near running water in a park or a private corner in your own backyard.  Any spot that is “your place” could become sacred for you.

IF YOU CAN SPARE A FEW HOURS…We suggest a Solstice trek that we

took to Sedalia, CO (directions at bottom of page) to visit the non-denominational Grace Cathedral and Gardens that is open to the public every day till dark (by donation).  This spot is a treasure, a “Sanctuary Extraordinaire”. We meditated in the amazingly simple but beautiful Italian chapel replica and then walked the winding pine forest path. Along the “Way” were small hidden areas with benches and a Buddha, a Sacred Geometry Garden, a Medicine Wheel, a Sun Dial.

We also walked a Labyrinth, a circular rock-lined pathway winding back and forth to the center and out again.  This ancient cross-cultural meditation tool dates back 4000 years.  The labyrinth allows a person to enter in one frame of mind and walk out transformed and renewed.  It is a true SANCTUARY AND PLACE TO JUST BE.

Directions to The Sanctuary - Take I25 south to Happy Canyon. Exit right (west) to Santa Fe. Right on Santa Fe (Hwy 85) to Sedalia. Left on Hwy 37 (Mainhart Rd). Cross 2 railroad tracks. Turn left on Hwy 105 to Wolfensberger Rd. Turn left. Sanctuary is on corner of 105 & Wolfensberger Rd.
